
A multi-faceted police operation in the OR Tambo District has resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and a quantity of drugs.
The arrest was made in the early hours of Wednesday morning by the Mthatha-based OR Tambo District Task Team. Acting on intelligence, the team conducted a raid at approximately 03:00 in the Moyeni locality, Marubeni A/A, Libode.
During the operation, authorities discovered and seized an unlicensed AK-47 assault rifle along with its ammunition. The suspect was also found in possession of various drugs, identified as dagga bompies and sachets of Tik. An undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing, was also confiscated.
The man failed to produce a valid license for the firearm and ammunition, leading to his immediate apprehension.
He is scheduled to appear before the Libode Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 06 November 2025. He will face formal charges of unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession and dealing in drugs.
