A coordinated operation between police forces in the Northern Cape and Western Cape culminated in the arrest of five male suspects following an armed robbery and assault at the Kareebos Wind Farm in the early hours of Tuesday, 04 November 2025.
According to police reports, the incident began at approximately 02:30 when three unknown men approached the on-duty guardhouse at the wind farm. The assailants threatened the security personnel with firearms before assaulting them.
The suspects then forced the security guards to the site office, where they broke a window to gain entry. Once inside, they stole several items, including radios, diesel, and cellphones belonging to the complainant.
The suspects fled the scene in a truck, which was later spotted by a security transport vehicle. While the truck was being followed by another security vehicle, the authorities were alerted. Police in the Western Cape were notified and a search was initiated.
With the assistance of the Laingsburg South African Police Service (SAPS), the fleeing vehicle was intercepted in the Touwsrivier area. Members of the Touwsrivier SAPS subsequently apprehended and arrested the five male suspects, whose ages range from 29 to 44.
A significant development in the case was the confiscation of the weapons used in the robbery, which were confirmed to be toy guns.
The five suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon to face charges related to the armed robbery and assault.
