A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the brutal rape and murder of a 63-year-old woman in Ga-Marishane Village, Nebo, in the Sekhukhune District.
The tragic incident occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, 20 October 2025, when the elderly woman was discovered murdered at her homestead. According to police reports, the suspect had allegedly been seen leaving the deceased’s residence earlier that morning. The community later found the woman’s lifeless body and immediately alerted the authorities, who promptly attended the scene.
The breakthrough in the case came in the early hours of Thursday, 23 October 2025. At approximately 01:50, community members noticed the suspect entering his homestead and, demonstrating swift action, alerted the police. Residents kept a vigilant watch on the location until police officers arrived and effected the arrest.
Following a post-mortem examination, which revealed the victim had been raped, an additional charge of rape was added to the initial charge of murder.
The suspect is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 24 October 2025, to face charges of both rape and murder.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, strongly condemned the incident. She specifically praised the community for their cooperation and responsible conduct, which was instrumental in the successful apprehension of the suspect.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
