A 23-year-old man, Karabo Lipson Matlala, is in police custody following his arrest on Monday, 13 October 2025, in connection with the theft of a vehicle from a motor dealership in Orkney.

According to police reports, the arrest occurred on the N12 road between Klerksdorp and Wolmaransstad, just outside Wolmaransstad. The incident leading to the arrest began when Matlala allegedly visited a dealership in Orkney and expressed interest in purchasing a vehicle.

During a scheduled test drive, Matlala, with a dealership representative in the passenger seat, stopped at a shop along the N12 road in Klerksdorp. He then reportedly asked the representative to go into the shop to buy them a cool drink. Seizing the opportunity, Matlala is alleged to have driven off with the vehicle while the representative was inside the store.

Following the incident, the vehicle was successfully traced, stopped, and recovered by the authorities.

Matlala appeared before the Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 15 October 2025. He faces formal charges of vehicle theft and possession of a presumed stolen vehicle. The court has remanded him in custody, and his case has been postponed to Friday, 24 October 2025, for a formal bail application.
