A 46-year-old Malawian national is under police guard in a hospital after being arrested for alleged attempted murder, stock theft, and contravening the Immigration Act. The arrest follows a violent confrontation on a farm in Chrissiesmeer in the early hours of Friday, 19 September 2025.

According to police reports, authorities received a call about an attack in progress and responded swiftly to the scene alongside Emergency Medical Services.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the farm owner with a stab wound to his neck. A suspect was also located on the property, suffering from a gunshot wound to his right thigh.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had been inspecting his property after noticing the perimeter fence had been cut. He was then suddenly ambushed by two suspects, one of whom stabbed him in the neck. Acting in self-defence, the farm owner managed to shoot and wound one of his attackers. The second suspect fled the scene on foot.

Both the injured farmer and the wounded suspect were transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest and formally charged with attempted murder, stock theft, and the contravention of the Immigration Act. He will remain under police guard until he is declared medically fit, at which point he will be brought before the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court. Police have indicated that additional charges may be added as the investigation progresses.

Investigators have also revealed that the second suspect, who remains at large, is currently out on bail and is facing charges related to other cases in the Carolina and Chrissiesmeer areas.
