Man Arrested in Mpumalanga After Police Seize Dagga Worth Over R1 Million

KAAPMUIDEN — Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested a 36-year-old man for dealing in dagga following a seizure of the drug valued at over R1 million on Thursday, 18 June 2026.

The arrest occurred at approximately 09:20 during a routine crime prevention stop-and-search operation on the R38 road. Officers stopped and searched a white Nissan GD-6 single-cab bakkie, discovering thirteen bags of dagga concealed inside the vehicle.

The confiscated dagga weighed approximately 170.6 kilograms, carrying an estimated street value of more than R1 million. The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with dealing in dagga. All exhibits were confiscated and booked in accordance with SAPS procedures.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 19 June 2026.
