Members of the Odendaalsrus Crime Prevention Unit made a significant arrest on Friday while conducting crime-combating operations in the Kutlwanong area.
According to police reports, officers spotted two men carrying what appeared to be suspicious cables. The police proceeded to stop the individuals and requested permission to conduct a search, which was granted by the suspects.
Upon searching the two African males, aged 29 and 42, the officers discovered they were in possession of suspected stolen copper cables, a hacksaw, and a pair of pliers. The suspects were unable to provide a reasonable explanation for possessing the items.
Role players from Telkom were called to the scene and positively identified the materials as their property.
The police subsequently confiscated the evidence, which included 17.1 kilograms of copper cable with an estimated value of R8,000, one hacksaw, and one pair of pliers.
The two suspects were arrested on charges of tampering with essential infrastructure, possession of suspected stolen copper cable, and possession of housebreaking implements. They are scheduled to make their first appearance before the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 September 2025.
