The Parys Regional Court has handed down a 15-year prison sentence to two individuals convicted of a violent house robbery that occurred last year. Issah Chisumbi (27) and Naledi Dangaje (21) were sentenced on Monday, 18 August 2025.
The court heard that in the early hours of Tuesday, 2 September 2024, a 49-year-old man was attacked while asleep in his home. The victim was awakened by a sharp pain on his wrist, which had been cut. He discovered his domestic helper, Dangaje, and her boyfriend, Chisumbi, standing over his bedside.
The pair assaulted the man with bottles and demanded money. After the victim handed over R10,000 in cash, the assailants continued their assault, demanding more. They then proceeded to steal four cellphones, two tablets, and a laptop, with the total value of the stolen goods estimated at R40,200. The perpetrators fled the scene, leaving the victim with serious injuries that required hospitalization for medical treatment.
