A routine patrol by members of the Flying Squad led to the arrest of four suspects on charges of possession of presumed stolen property and fraud on Monday afternoon.
The operation unfolded at approximately 1:15 PM on September 15, 2025, while officers were monitoring traffic on the N2 on the Macassar side. Their attention was drawn to a silver Hyundai, which matched the description of a vehicle reportedly involved in multiple theft out of motor vehicle cases.
The vehicle was subsequently pulled over and searched. Upon inspection, officers discovered it was fitted with false number plates. A search of the interior revealed a black bag containing a significant array of items, including:
-
An Apple laptop and an Apple tablet
-
A power bank
-
A passport belonging to a white male
-
Numerous car keys for different vehicles
-
Electronic remotes commonly used for jamming signals
-
A tablet holder
-
A reflector jacket
-
A screwdriver
-
An external memory card reader with multiple memory sticks
Four male suspects, aged between 21 and 32, were immediately placed under arrest. The individuals were transported to the Macassar SAPS for processing and detention. They are expected to be formally charged and make their first appearance in the Strand Magistrates’ Court in the coming days.
The discovery of the signal jammers and multiple vehicle keys suggests the group may be linked to a broader pattern of electronic-assisted crimes. The investigation is ongoing.
