The Frankfort Regional Court has handed down a 12-year prison sentence to 31-year-old Fana Kelvin Mphuthi for the rape of his then-girlfriend.
The court heard that the incident occurred on the night of Thursday, 19 September 2024, at approximately 22:30. The 28-year-old victim was visiting Mphuthi at his residence when the couple went to bed. Without provocation, Mphuthi began assaulting her and accusing her of infidelity.
Despite the victim’s denials, the assault continued. Under duress and threat of further violence, she eventually acquiesced to the false accusations in a desperate attempt to stop the attack. However, Mphuthi then proceeded to rape her.
The victim subsequently reported the crime to the South African Police Service (SAPS), leading to Mphuthi’s arrest. The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Mamoferefere Maloka of the Mafube Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit.
Through diligent investigation, Det. Sgt. Maloka secured a conviction against Mphuthi. On Wednesday, 28 August 2025, the Frankfort Regional Court formally sentenced Fana Kelvin Mphuthi to 12 years’ imprisonment for his crime.
