
A five-year-old girl from Nyakelane village has died following a hit-and-run accident on Sunday afternoon. Namakgale police have opened a case of culpable homicide and are investigating the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
The incident occurred at approximately 16:30 on Sunday, 07 September 2025, along the Tshelang Gape road leading to Makhushane Dairy. According to police reports, the young child was attempting to cross the road when she was struck by a grey Hyundai Getz.
Upon receiving the call, police and emergency services rushed to the scene. They found the child lying motionless near the roadway. Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was certified dead at the scene.
The vehicle involved was not present when authorities arrived. However, community members who witnessed the accident provided crucial information to the investigating officers. Later, the driver of the vehicle came forward and reported the incident in person at the Namakgale police station.
A case of culpable homicide has been officially opened. Police confirm that their investigation into the matter is ongoing.
