A 31-year-old illegal immigrant was arrested on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, following a successful intelligence-driven operation conducted by off-duty police members for dealing in drugs.
The arrest came after authorities received a credible tip-off regarding a consignment of drugs scheduled for delivery in Upington. Acting swiftly on this information, preliminary investigations were initiated, which led officers to a local guesthouse where a suspect vehicle was identified and located.
Upon searching the vehicle, members discovered a significant quantity of methamphetamine meticulously concealed within a hidden compartment at the rear of the car. The street value of the confiscated narcotics is estimated at R620,400.00.
The vehicle, identified as having been used in the commission of the crime, was also seized by police.
The suspect is expected to face charges of drug dealing and will likely be processed for violation of immigration laws. Police have praised the operation as a significant blow to local drug trafficking efforts.
