A 32-year-old man from Lechabile Trust has been arrested and charged with rape and housebreaking following an incident in the early hours of Friday morning.
The arrest was effected by the Ladybrand Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in collaboration with the Kommissiepoort police.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of Thursday, 28 August 2025. The 26-year-old victim was asleep in her home after having consumed some drinks. She was awakened during the night and noticed an individual walking away from the residence.
Upon investigation, she discovered that a window had been forced open. The victim immediately suspected she had been sexually violated and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A subsequent medical examination confirmed that she had been raped.
The suspect was swiftly located and arrested at his residence in Lechabile Trust. He has been formally charged with housebreaking with intent to rape and rape.
The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Ladybrand Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 1 September 2025.
