The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the North West Province has confirmed it is investigating a brazen armed robbery that occurred on Thursday afternoon, 21 August 2025, at the intersection of Bray Road and Unit 13. The incident, which was captured on video and is circulating on social media, shows two men robbing the occupants of a white Toyota Fortuner at gunpoint.
According to police reports, a substantial amount of cash was taken during the daylight robbery. A case has been opened, and an active investigation is currently underway.
In a statement, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in the North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, analyzed the audacious nature of the crime. He noted that the incident occurring in public view and being recorded suggests there are witnesses who could hold vital information.
“The fact that this incident happened in public, in broad daylight and that it was recorded and circulated on social media says that there are witnesses with information that can lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects,” said Major General Asaneng.
He further characterized the robbery as a targeted attack, stating, “It is clear that this was a well-planned and not random robbery as the suspects knew what they were looking for, which was the money that the victim had.”
The Acting Commissioner made a direct appeal to the public, urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. “The request and message to those who saw what happened or may identify the perpetrators, is to please assist the police and not allow these dangerous rascals to escape arrest. Keeping quiet will only benefit and embolden these armed, dangerous criminals, who must be stopped before they injure or kill innocent people.”
He assured potential informants that “anyone who has information and doesn’t want their identity revealed are assured that all information will be handled with utmost confidentiality.”
Police have provided the following contact details for anyone with information that could aid the investigation:
