A 32-year-old man is in police custody and is set to face serious charges following a violent domestic incident in Extension 40, outside Polokwane, in the early hours of Sunday, 24 August 2025.
The suspect, who is the youngest of three brothers, has been charged with murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH). The charges stem from a brutal attack that resulted in the death of his eldest brother’s girlfriend and left his sibling seriously injured.
According to police investigations, the three brothers and the 32-year-old girlfriend of the eldest brother were together watching soccer. The situation turned violent after the eldest brother briefly left the house, leaving his girlfriend inside his room.
Police reports indicate that the youngest brother suddenly became aggressive and stabbed the woman multiple times. Upon hearing the commotion and returning to intervene, the eldest brother was also attacked by the suspect with a knife. The suspect then locked the house in an attempt to contain the situation.
The altercation alerted members of the local community, who forced their way into the residence. Upon their entry, the suspect immediately fled the scene. He was subsequently chased down, caught, and assaulted by the community members.
Police officers responded swiftly to the scene. Their first action was to rescue the suspect from the mob, after which they placed him under arrest. He is currently under police guard in a medical facility.
Paramedics at the scene certified the 32-year-old woman dead after finding her with multiple stab wounds. The elder brother, who sustained serious injuries during his attempt to intervene, is currently receiving medical treatment.
The suspect is expected to be formally charged and will soon appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
