The Makhado South African Police Service (SAPS) has initiated a large-scale manhunt for suspects involved in the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old motorist along the N1 South near the Ben Lavin turn-off. The incident occurred on Saturday, 16 August 2025, at approximately 19:00.

According to police reports, the victim was driving a white Toyota Corolla from Gauteng to Musina with three passengers when the vehicle broke down in the Makhado policing area. While awaiting assistance, a white Toyota Fortuner stopped nearby, and two unidentified males approached under the pretense of helping. The suspects inquired about the driver of the Toyota Corolla, and upon identifying him, one immediately drew a firearm and shot the victim multiple times. The three passengers fled in different directions for safety, while the assailants escaped in their vehicle.
