A 31-year-old man from Moemaneng, near Marquard, is set to apply for bail on 21 August 2025 at the Marquard Magistrate’s Court, where he faces an attempted murder charge for allegedly trying to strangle his 8-year-old stepdaughter.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, 9 August 2025, in Tshimong Section, Moemaneng. According to allegations, the girl was playing in the street when her stepfather approached her, asked her to accompany him, and led her to a nearby ditch. There, he allegedly removed her shirt and attempted to strangle her with it.

The child managed to break free and fled half-naked to her grandmother’s house, where she reported the attack. Authorities were alerted, and the victim was taken to the hospital for medical examination. Doctors confirmed that she had not been sexually violated.

The girl’s mother expressed shock over the incident, stating that the suspect had allegedly abandoned her at a bar before assaulting the child. The accused was arrested and made his first court appearance on Thursday, 14 August 2025. The case was postponed to allow for a formal bail application.
