
A 37-year-old male suspect has been arrested after police allegedly found him in possession of unlawful veterinary medicines and a large quantity of ammunition during a search operation in Winburg.
According to reports, the Welkom K9 Unit, Bultfontein Stock Theft Unit, and Bultfontein Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) executed a search warrant at a specified address on Tuesday, 12 August 2025. During the operation, officers allegedly discovered Schedule 4 and Schedule 6 veterinary medicine worth an estimated R20,000. The suspect failed to produce documentation authorizing his possession of the medicines.
Further investigation led to the discovery of 420 rounds of high-caliber ammunition stored in an ammunition box inside a cupboard, with an estimated value of R105,000.
Authorities confiscated the following items:

Three (3) sealed boxes containing M99 and M5050 medicines

One (1) open vial of M99

Two (2) Schedule 4 medicines

392 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition

35 rounds of 6.5mm ammunition
The suspect was arrested for contravening the Medicines and Related Substances Act as well as the Firearms Control Regulations Act. He is scheduled to appear before the Winburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 13 August 2025.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
