
A 32-year-old suspect was arrested by the Sasolburg POP Platoon 02 for allegedly discharging a firearm in a municipal area on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 06:45 on 09 August 2025, when a police constable, en route to work, heard multiple gunshots. The officer then observed an unknown African male running towards a silver BMW with Gauteng Province registration plates while firing several shots.
The constable immediately called for backup. Upon apprehending the suspect, authorities determined that he was intoxicated and in possession of a firearm. Although the suspect’s firearm license was valid, he was arrested and detained for unlawfully discharging a firearm in a municipal area.
The firearm was seized as part of the investigation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges related to the illegal discharge of a firearm in a municipal area.
