Police in De Aar have arrested a 30-year-old man and recovered stolen property valued at more than R1.2 million following a reported theft from a motor vehicle and a guesthouse between Friday, 01 August 2025, and Saturday, 02 August 2025.
According to authorities, the swift arrest came after a complaint was lodged by a guesthouse owner regarding several items stolen from a guest’s vehicle. Preliminary investigations led police to identify the suspect, who was later traced to an abandoned house on Kort Street in De Aar.
A search of the premises uncovered various stolen items, including miscellaneous parts and electrical testers, with an estimated value exceeding R1.2 million. The suspect was arrested and charged with theft out of a motor vehicle. He is expected to appear in the De Aar Magistrate’s Court soon.
Major General Nomana Mtukushe, the District Commissioner of Pixley Ka Seme, praised the officers involved for their rapid response and successful recovery of the stolen goods.
“The swift action by the police demonstrates the effectiveness of growing cooperation between law enforcement and the business community,” said Major General Mtukushe. She added that businesses are increasingly adhering to SAPS safety tips, which aim to reduce incidents of theft, business burglaries, and housebreak-ins.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine if the suspect is linked to other criminal activities in the area.
