A coordinated intelligence-driven operation spanning multiple provinces has led to the arrest of a suspect and the safe recovery of a kidnapped Ethiopian businessman in Maletswai (Aliwal North).

According to reports, the incident began on 23 July 2025, when a Hyundai SUV was hijacked in Kwazakele, Gqeberha, and later driven toward Maletswai. By 20:40 that evening, authorities confirmed the same vehicle had been used in the abduction of the businessman.

Acting on verified intelligence, law enforcement agencies tracked the SUV to Rouxville, Free State. An operational team located the vehicle, prompting a high-speed chase that ended in Raletunya Township, where the suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Police managed to apprehend a 32-year-old suspect from Motherwell, Gqeberha, while the kidnapped victim was found unharmed and rescued.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to pursue the remaining suspects.
