Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Venterstad, including the Stock Theft Unit, successfully apprehended three suspects in possession of suspected stolen meat following a tip-off.

The operation took place on 24 July 2025 at 15:30 in the Lyceumville locality. Acting on credible information, police proceeded to a residence on Stagler Street, where they discovered a sheep carcass in the bedroom. Three suspects, aged between 16 and 19 years, were immediately arrested for possession of suspected stolen meat.

Later that day, a local farmer residing 6km outside town reported a case of stock theft. Further investigation confirmed that the meat found in the suspects’ possession matched the stolen livestock.

The three accused are set to appear before the Burgersdorp Magistrate’s Court on 28 July 2025 to face charges related to the incident.
