Western Cape police conducted a targeted operation in the Middelpos informal settlement in Saldanha Bay on Friday afternoon, acting on emerging information in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of seven-year-old Joshlin Smith.
Despite the sentencing of three individuals—including the child’s mother—in May 2025 for kidnapping and human trafficking, Joshlin’s whereabouts remain unknown. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has emphasized that the case remains a priority, and the investigation has never been closed.
A coordinated team comprising detectives, K-9 units, search and rescue personnel, and local police combed through a specified area in Saldanha Bay. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the latest operation will yield new leads but reiterated their commitment to pursuing all credible information.
“SAPS has an obligation to follow up and verify every piece of information received in this case,” a police spokesperson stated. A respectful appeal has been made to the public to allow search teams the necessary space to conduct their duties as the investigation continues.
The disappearance of Joshlin Smith has gripped the nation, and authorities remain determined to uncover the truth behind her tragic case. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
