
A swift and well-coordinated police operation led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man found in possession of a firearm, ammunition, and drugs in Nyanga on Tuesday.
Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) deployed in Nyanga acted on credible information regarding an individual involved in extortion-related activities within the precinct. Following up on the tip-off, officers proceeded to a residence on Abonwabisi Street.
Upon entering the property, they identified and searched a suspect matching the provided description. The search yielded a pistol with ammunition and 195 Mandrax tablets in his possession.
The suspect was immediately detained on charges of illegal possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of drugs. Once formally charged, he is expected to appear before the Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
