The event, the 10th stop on the global championship tour, saw Durban’s Jordy Smith—the current points leader—exit early, much to the disappointment of his supporters.
Despite Smith’s early elimination, the atmosphere remained electric, with fans cheering on their favorites under clear skies and perfect waves. The scene was described as vibrant, with spectators from across the Eastern Cape and beyond gathering to enjoy the spectacle.

Smith, a former world champion and crowd favorite, received a warm ovation despite failing to qualify for the quarter or semi-finals. “He bowed out gracefully,” the reporter noted, “with fans still showing their love for the local hero.”
