A 27-year-old man from Manyatseng, near Ladybrand, has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his 51-year-old biological mother. The suspect is expected to appear in the Ladybrand Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 3 July 2025, to face a murder charge.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday, 1 July 2025, at approximately 08:50, when officers were called to a murder complaint at Platberg Informal Settlement. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of the 51-year-old woman inside her shack, bearing visible facial bruises.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect may have assaulted his mother after reprimanding her for making noise at night while under the influence of alcohol. A postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The suspect was swiftly arrested and charged with murder. Police have confirmed that a formal murder investigation is underway.
