A rapid response by Warden police on Thursday led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man and the confiscation of dagga with an estimated street value of R260,000.
The operation unfolded at approximately 08:15 when the Rural Safety Coordinator team at Warden Police Station received a tip-off about a grey Ford Ranger with Gauteng registration plates suspected of transporting dagga along the N3 towards Warden.
Acting swiftly, officers located the vehicle traveling southbound on the N3. A chase ensued, which police expertly concluded by tactically stopping the bakkie. Upon searching the vehicle, which only had the driver inside, authorities uncovered a large quantity of dagga loaded in the back.
The suspect was immediately arrested for dealing in dagga, and the illicit cargo was seized. He is expected to appear in the Vrede Magistrate’s Court soon. Police have launched further investigations to trace the source and intended destination of the drugs.
