A 42-year-old police officer is set to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court today in connection with the disappearance of 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi.

The officer, who was attached to the SAPS gang unit, was taken in for questioning and later arrested after a vehicle linked to the abduction was traced back to him. Free State police confirmed that more arrests are expected as the investigation unfolds.

Abduction Details

Kamogelo, a student with special needs, was allegedly abducted by two men—one wearing a police uniform and the other in civilian clothing. Authorities now believe the arrested officer may have been one of the suspects involved in the incident.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantisi Makhele. stated that the investigation is ongoing, with teams working around the clock to locate Kamogelo. “Our main focus is to bring him back home safely,” he said. “We urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Community Outrage and Family’s Anguish

The case has sparked outrage in Bloemfontein, with growing concerns over the safety of young people and trust in law enforcement. The victim’s family has been left devastated, while classmates and teachers at his school have expressed deep distress over his disappearance.

The Department of Education is expected to visit the school today to offer support. Meanwhile, community members have raised alarm over the alleged involvement of a police officer, questioning the integrity of those tasked with public safety.

More Arrests Expected

Authorities have not ruled out further arrests as they continue to piece together the circumstances of the abduction. Investigators are also examining whether the incident was a targeted kidnapping or part of a broader criminal operation.

As the case unfolds, the public remains hopeful for Kamogelo’s safe return while demanding justice for what appears to be a grave breach of trust by a sworn officer.
