The highly anticipated Hermanus FynArts Festival has officially begun, transforming the picturesque coastal town into a vibrant hub of creativity, culture, and culinary delights. Running from June 6 to June 16, this unique 10-day event blends the best of visual arts, intellectual discourse, music, and fine dining in intimate and charming venues across Hermanus.
A Feast for the Senses
This year’s festival boasts an impressive lineup, featuring over 20 art exhibitions showcasing sculpture, ceramics, painting, photography, quilting, and glasswork. Attendees can also enjoy live music concerts, workshops, masterclasses, tutored wine tastings, and gourmet dining experiences. A highlight of the festival is its engaging talks and discussions, all richly illustrated to deepen the audience’s appreciation of the arts.
Spotlight on Local Talent
One of the festival’s featured artists, Nanette Ranger, brings her evocative sculptures to the forefront. Known for her deeply emotional portrayals of the human figure—particularly women—Ranger describes sculpting as an “all-consuming passion.” Her latest work explores themes of anchoring and connection, reflecting on the human experience.
Art enthusiasts can meet Ranger in person during a walkabout at Creation Wines on Saturday, June 7, from 10 AM, where she will discuss her inspirations and creative process.
Easy Exploration
To help visitors navigate the festival’s diverse venues—from cozy coffee shops to scenic wine farms—the event offers a complimentary hop-on/hop-off bus service and three rickshaw bicycles for easy transport between central exhibitions. Additionally, affordable Wine Route Shuttles will connect attendees to participating wine farms along the Hermanus Wine Route.
Plan Ahead
With the festival drawing art lovers, foodies, and wine enthusiasts from across the country, organizers recommend booking accommodation early to secure the best stays in Hermanus. For more details on lodging, attractions, and the full festival program, visit the official Hermanus Info pages.
