Katlehong, KwaZulu-Natal – Police are reportedly on the verge of arresting a suspect in connection with the murder of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Member of Parliament Khethamabala Sithole, who was fatally attacked in Katlehong, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday night.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, prompting the IFP to call on law enforcement to swiftly bring those responsible to justice. National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, expressed confidence that investigators are close to a breakthrough.

“I am satisfied with the amount of evidence gathered so far,” said General Masemola during a briefing on Monday evening. “We know who we are looking for—it’s just a matter of time before we effect an arrest. Our crime intelligence operatives and seasoned detectives are on the ground actively searching for the suspect.”

The investigating team, led by Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya and KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, briefed Masemola on progress made in tracking down the alleged killer.

Authorities have yet to disclose a possible motive for the attack, but the case has drawn significant attention given Sithole’s political standing. The IFP has urged police to ensure justice is served swiftly.

As the manhunt intensifies, SAPS remains optimistic that an arrest is imminent. Further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
