A significant structure fire broke out at Mikeva Hyper in Mossel Bay earlier this morning, shortly after 10:00. Chief Fire Officer Joseph Johnston confirmed at 11:52 that the blaze had been contained, though firefighting efforts were still ongoing.
All 154 employees were safely evacuated, with one adult female sustaining burn injuries. She has been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Multiple emergency services remain on-site to assist, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), public and private ambulance teams, municipal and provincial traffic authorities, and an additional fuel tanker from PetroSA to support firefighting operations.
