The City of Cape Town has launched a public consultation process for a critical rehabilitation project to stabilise Kloof Road’s crumbling embankments, which were severely damaged by heavy rains in 2023 and 2024.
The affected section, roughly 200 metres west of the Kloof Road-Camps Bay Drive junction in Table Mountain National Park, has suffered major erosion due to uncontrolled stormwater runoff. Initial soil assessments reveal unstable layers of silty sand and gravel clay that collapsed under sustained rainfall.
A draft proposal outlines plans for slope stabilisation using sustainable engineering and improved stormwater management. The city warns that without intervention, the popular scenic route connecting Camps Bay to the city bowl remains at risk of further deterioration.
Residents and stakeholders have until 23 June 2025 to submit feedback via Doug Jeffrey Environmental Consultants’ website. The city emphasises that public input will ensure “transparent planning and long-term resilience” for the route.
