A 19-year-old man was brutally murdered in what authorities believe was a clash between two rival gangs, TRT and The Hawks, leaving the Schweizer-Reneke community in shock and demanding urgent action against escalating violence.
Victim Killed, Another Stabbed in Alleged Gang Attack
The victim’s family is devastated after he was allegedly attacked and killed by a mob of gang members. In a separate incident the same day, a 29-year-old man survived multiple stab wounds after being falsely accused of belonging to the TRT gang.
“I’m very scared for my life, for my children,” the survivor said, describing the terror residents now live with daily.
Random Shootings Put Innocent Lives at Risk
The violence intensified when gang members allegedly opened fire indiscriminately, hitting a minibus taxi transporting schoolchildren hours before the deadly assault. The driver escaped unharmed, but the attack has left the community on edge.
“He told me he was loading children when the shooting started,” a shaken witness recounted. “It’s terrifying—no one is safe.”
Community Leaders Demand Action
Local officials have condemned the surge in gang warfare, which has disrupted schooling, left multiple casualties, and instilled fear across Schweizer-Reneke.
“The violence we’ve seen in recent weeks is devastating,” a community leader said. “Children couldn’t attend school, innocent people were hurt, and lives were lost. We demand justice and stronger intervention.”
Three Suspects Face Court Amid Ongoing Investigations
Three men linked to the violence appeared in court, with one accused of murder, assault, and property damage. Two others face house robbery charges. The case was postponed to next Wednesday as police work to dismantle gang operations in the area.
