
A 31-year-old man from Slovo Park Section, Bluegumbosch, has been arrested by Phuthaditjhaba Detectives in connection with the alleged murder of his elder sister and the assault of his mother during a violent domestic dispute over money.
The incident occurred on Friday, 16 May 2025, when the suspect reportedly accused his sister of stealing his money. According to police reports, the confrontation turned physical, and when their mother attempted to intervene, the suspect allegedly became aggressive.
Authorities state that the man drew a knife and fatally stabbed his sister. As their mother tried to stop the attack, he allegedly turned on her, stabbing her on the forehead, right cheek, and right shoulder.
The sister was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Medical personnel reported the incident to the police, prompting an immediate investigation. A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was seized as evidence.
Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene on foot and went into hiding. However, through diligent investigative work, Phuthaditjhaba Detectives tracked him down and arrested him on Saturday, 17 May 2025.
The suspect has been formally charged with murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He is expected to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 May 2025, to face these charges.
Police have urged the public to report domestic disputes early to prevent such tragic outcomes. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
