Swift actions by the Anti-Gang Unit led to the recovery of several firearms following a surge in gang violence between rival factions in Lavender Hill.
According to police reports, members of the Anti-Gang Unit and their Information Team acted on intelligence regarding the location of illegal firearms. Their investigation first led them to an address in Parkin Court, Lavender Hill, where a 35-year-old man, allegedly affiliated with a local gang, was arrested. Officers recovered a 9mm pistol along with nine rounds of ammunition.
Further intelligence directed the team to Constitution Court, Lavender Hill, where a 49-year-old woman was arrested for the unlawful possession of a chrome Browning 7.65mm pistol and twelve rounds of ammunition.
In a separate operation, tracing efforts by law enforcement led to the discovery of fifteen 9mm rounds abandoned on a staircase near a premises in Shepard Court, Lavender Hill. No arrests were made in connection with this find.
The two suspects arrested are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.
Authorities have commended the operations as a significant step in curbing gang-related violence in the area. Investigations remain ongoing.
