More than 300 households in Flagstaff have been left homeless after the local municipality began demolishing their homes in March. Residents claim they were not given prior notice and were not offered alternative shelter.

The municipality, however, maintains that the residents illegally occupied land designated for economic development. “The land was not made available for housing, and these structures were built without approval,” a municipal spokesperson said.

Affected families say the sudden demolitions have left them in crisis, with many now living in makeshift shelters. Community leaders are calling for urgent intervention, while the municipality insists the land will be used for projects to boost the local economy.

Negotiations between residents and officials are ongoing, but no immediate resolution has been reached.
