Persistence from members attached to the Anti Economic Crime Task Team and Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team to eradicate the illegal distribution of drugs as a major crime contributor, proved successful when the members confiscated drugs with an estimated value of R1.8 million and arrested a 31-year-old Nigerian national in connection with the discovery.

This targeted crime combatting operation was executed on Tuesday, 08 April 2025 at about 06:45, when the members operationalised information of drugs activities taking place at a block of flats situated in Bellville. The members initiated a search and discovered a substantial consignment of drugs consisting 34 210 mandrax tablets, 1kg of Crystal meth (tik) and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of the illicit drug trade.

The members arrested a 31-year-old Nigerian national who stands accused of dealing in drugs of which the confiscated items are estimated at a value of R2 million.

The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court, once charged.
