Multi-disciplinary efforts have led to the recovery of a hijacked vehicle in Bloemfontein and the subsequent arrest of four suspects after a passer-by found a victim with multiple stab wounds in Welkom.

On 15 December 2024 at about 07:30, Welkom Flying Squad members received a tip-off about an injured person found lying between Bronville and Thabong. On arrival members found the victim with multiple stab wounds and the victim was rushed to hospital in Welkom in a critical condition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 35-year-old was driving a white VW kombi and was a victim of hijacking. The vehicle was traced to be on its way to Bloemfontein.

At about 09:10 Bloemfontein Flying Squad working together with Anti-Gang unit and Navalsig Police, received a lookout for the vehicle and it was spotted and intercepted in the Navalsig area, driven by a female. Realising that police are on their tail, one of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran on foot. A police member swiftly pursued the suspect on foot resulting in an arrest.

Police arrested the occupants in the vehicle, three females aged 20, 32 and 35. The victim’s personal firearm and ammunition were also found hidden under the driver’s seat.

All four suspects (3 females and 1 male) were arrested for hijacking, attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a hijacked vehicle. They will appear in the Welkom and Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Courts soon.
