Suspect arrested after a car chase in the Elsburg region

On Monday 11 November 2024 at 10:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), Community Liaison Unit Officers apprehended a male suspect aged twenty-one (21) years, in the Elsburg area.

While conducting crime prevention, Officers received information about a wanted suspect, who allegedly stole money worth sixty-five thousand rands (R65000) and fled with a suspected stolen vehicle. Information was provided on the suspect’s whereabouts and where officers proceeded to the location. While proceeding, they spotted a white VW, which was described to be of the suspect. A chase ensued and Officers managed to corner the suspect, where he lost control and crashed into a house and a stationary white BMW.

The twenty one (21) year old was immediately arrested and detained at Zonkizizwe Police Station, facing charges of reckless and negligent driving, and malicious damage to property, with further charges to be added. He is expected to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
