The Hawks’ Asset Forfeiture Investigation (AFI) team in collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) secured a forfeiture order to the value of R59 100-00 which was received on 11 January 2023. The order was granted by the Cape Town High Court on 24 November 2023.

During March 2022 members of the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) arrested a suspect for possession of mandrax which were hidden inside the boot of a Ford Ikon vehicle. The Hawks seized the vehicle as it was used in the commission of crime. The total amount of mandrax tablets was 82000 to the estimated value of R 3.2 million.

The suspect, Fabian Jacobs aged 36 is currently out on bail and expected to appear at the Wynberg Regional Court on 18 March 2024 for pre-trial. The Hawks’ Provincial Head, Major General Makgato commended the joint efforts by the Hawks and the NPA Asset Forfeiture Unit for securing the forfeiture order through their expertise in the investigation of these matters.
