Oudtshoorn government employee in court for defrauding department of R600,000

African News Agency (ANA)

A transport department clerk is expected to appear in the Oudtschoorn Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, facing charges of fraud and theft amounting to R600,000.

Previously Grace Malgas appeared in court on October 20, for allegedly manipulating the department systems to divert funds to her personal account, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said at the time.

Spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha said Malgas was arrested on October 18.

It is alleged that between 2013 and 2016 Malgas, a financial clerk within the department, unlawfully manipulated the systems to divert funds to her personal account by using her supervisor’s “user identity” to authorise the illegal payments.
