A 37-year-old alleged housebreaker has been rearrested in Kimberley after escaping from lawful custody three months ago, Northern Cape police said on Sunday.

“He was facing charges of theft and housebreaking when he escaped from lawful custody. He was rearrested at Colville in Kimberley together with his 33-year-old [alleged] partner in crime over the weekend,” Captain Olebogeng Tawana said.

His arrest came after police received a tip-off regarding his whereabouts.

“During his arrest he retrieved some of the properties he [allegedly] stole when he broke into houses around greater Kimberley, including a bicycle, lawnmower, sound systems, and many more.

“Some of the items retrieved include those which he [allegedly] stole when he broke into churches and local schools and in the neighbourhood,” Tawana said.
