A Port Elizabeth man is expected to appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, in connection with a hit-and-run car crash that left a four-year-old boy dead.

The accused was released on bail of R5,000.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said a four-year-old boy was hit by the car and dragged to his death in Bloemendal on September 18. The vehicle sped off without stopping.

“According to police information, at about 5.45pm the child’s mother was getting into a taxi at the corner of Bergins and Bardiem Street when a blue jumbo Golf, travelling at a high speed collided into the child,” Naidu said at the time.

Eyewitnesses said there were two men and a woman in the car. They were reportedly on their way home from a funeral.
