A woman has been sentenced to seven years in jail, suspended for five years, for defrauding the Hotazhel Combined School, the Northern Cape Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), better known as the Hawks, said.
Valecia Veruschka Diedericks, 31, was arrested on April 1 for defrauding the school, starting in March 2009, Captain Philani Nkwalase said.
She was charged with embezzling over R137,000 by redirecting money to her personal bank account. The funds were meant to pay a company rendering a service to the school.
The Kuruman Magistrate’s Court found her guilty this week and imposed a seven-year sentence, wholly suspended for five years on condition that did not commit similar crimes. She was further ordered to repay R115,817.70 through arranged payment agreements, Nkwalase said.
