Western Cape: 16 year old suspect arrested for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition in Manenberg
On Tuesday 26th July 2016 at about 15:30 a 16 year old boy was arrested for the possession of illegal firearm and ammunition.
During high density patrols and crime prevention operations, Manenberg SAPS members saw a young boy walking in Waterberg Road Heideveld. When he saw the marked police vehicle he started acting suspicious. SAPS members stopped and searched him and found a 9mm CZ pistol in his possession. The pistol still had its serial number.
It was established through further investigation that the pistol is registered to a resident of Gugulethu and was never reported stolen. If the owner cannot give a reasonable account of not reporting his firearm missing he could face serious charges.
The 16 year old boy will be charged for the illegal possession of a firearm and will appear in Athlone Magistrate court soon.
