An alleged gang member was shot and killed while another was injured last night, 19 June 2016. It is alleged that at about 20:45, Sean Berry (30) and his friend were standing outside Berry’s parent’s house in Barends street, Salt Lake when three males approached them. The suspects started shooting at the duo. Berry sustained multiple gunshots to his body while the other victim was shot twice. Berry died while on the way to hospital. The suspects fled on foot. The incident is gang related. Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.

Police are appealing to the community to assist them in their investigation. No suspects are arrested. Gangs operating in and around South Africa are dangerous, have no consideration for life and often kill people who interfere with their “turf”. Gang violence is on the rise and contributes to the high crime statistics in South Africa. Drugs, stolen goods, armed robberies, are the normal activities of gangs and often police are involved in protection against the perpetrators.
