Nigerian drug dealer sentenced to 16 years imprisonment

On April 21, 2016 a lengthy sentence was handed down in the Beaufort West magistrates court to a drug dealer who was arrested twice during last year in possession of large quantities of drugs estimated at R1 million.

On January 15, 2015, Nigerian national, 37-year-old Paul Udoji Okechukwu was arrested in possession of 2033 mandrax tablets and 395 g tik. On 2015-05-19, while out on bail, Okechukwe was arrested again in possession of 4939 mandrax tablets and 1,5 kg of tik, also in Beaufort West.

He was found guilty of dealing in drugs and for each of the cases he was sentenced to eight years imprisonment, which will be served concurrently.

This should serve as a warning to drug dealers that our judicial system is serious about fighting drug-dealing in South Africa.
