The mathematics course of class 9th plays a crucial role in forming a strong foundation for the further learning of mathematics. It is extremely important that you must know that all the concepts that are discussed in the NCERT must be practiced thoroughly using the back exercises as well as some reference material to gain a complete understanding of the concepts. You must also know the syllabus properly to proceed with your preparation. The syllabus summary is given below for reference:
Chapter 1 Number System
This chapter discusses the types of numbers like rational and irrational numbers and their representation. This chapter also discusses the representation of numbers on the number lines and the operations that can be carried out on these rational and irrational numbers.
Chapter 2 Polynomials
In this chapter, you will be looking at a specific sort of algebraic statement known as a polynomial, as well as the nomenclature associated with it. We will also see the types of different polymeric expressions and the degree associated with them. We’ll also look at the concepts of Remainders Theorem and Theorem of Factor, along with their application into the process of factorizing the polynomials expressions. In addition to the latter, we’ll look at several more algebraic identities and how they can be used to do the factorization and evaluate equations.
Chapter 3 Coordinate Geometry
This chapter gives information about coordinate geometry which is used to describe the location of points in the Cartesian planes. The Cartesian plane concept uses the various dimensions into which a point or group of points can be studied for their locations. The student will also learn the basics of plotting points on the graph and the determination and significance of points.
Chapter 4 Linear Equations of Two Variables
This is the chapter where you will get to know about algebraic equations which have more than one i.e. two different unknown variables. You will get to have an introduction to the method to solve such equations and also draw their graphs in order to understand them better. The equations will give a particular kind of graph with an infinite number of points which will all be the solutions of these equations.
Chapter 5 Euclids Geometry
This chapter discusses the approach of geometry in general and the very foundation of geometry as a branch of mathematics. It differentiates between the postulates and the theorems which are prevalent in the world of mathematical research. The use of statements and the change they can undergo is also discussed here. You will also learn about the many postulates of Euclid which have helped in the further development of mathematical science and geometry.
Chapter 6 Line And Angles
The points that this chapter shall cover are the properties of the angles generated when two lines cross one another, as well as the characteristics of the angles created whenever a line meets two or many parallel lines at various points. You will also learn about various kinds of angles formed between lines and their own characteristic properties and their use in practical geometry. You will also learn to find one or more than one angle in a figure using the properties and logic in the definitions of angles.
Chapter 7 Triangles
This chapter discusses the concept of congruence in terms of triangles. The similarity in properties of two figures is considered and compared in order to establish relationships between those figures. This chapter in detail discusses the properties and theorems associated with triangles. The chapter also tells about various types of triangles that can be distinguished based upon their characteristics.
Chapter 8 Quadrilaterals
Now that in chapter 7 you have studied figures with three sides, this chapter discusses the properties and theorems related to the figures with four sides that are called quadrilaterals. The characteristics and relationships between various types of quadrilaterals such as squares, rhombus, trapezium, rectangles, etc will also be discussed in this lesson. Look at the RS Aggarwal Solutions for Class 9 Math Chapter 8 Solutions here.
Chapter 9 Area of Parallelogram And Triangle
This chapter discusses the calculation of the area of the two previously studied figures. This chapter contains theorems that can be used in various applications to simplify the establishment of relationships between two figures that may or may not be the same. It is an application of theoretical geometry in mathematics.
Chapter 10 Circle
This chapter throws light on the side less figure in mathematics i.e. a circle. This chapter discusses the parts of a circle along with the formation and properties of circles. This chapter also mixes up and conceptualizes the usage of various other geometrical figures along with the circle and its properties. The individual properties of circles and other figures are applied simultaneously in questions.
Chapter 11 Constructions
This chapter is the application of the geometry learned so far into drawing mathematical figures such as angles and shapes through well-defined and proven procedures. This chapter requires you to use mathematical geometrical tools to construct angles and lines of specific measures while adhering to the rules of construction of geometrical entities.
Chapter 12 Herons Formula
This chapter discusses a special formula called the heron’s formula which is used to calculate the area of a triangle. It uses the concept of half of the perimeter of a triangle called the semi perimeter to calculate the area of a triangle. It can be used to calculate areas of quadrilaterals as well due to the versatility of the formula.
Chapter 13 Surface Area and Volume
This is one of the most important chapters when it comes to menstruations. It discusses the methods of surface area and volume calculations of figures such as cubes, cuboids, cylinders, cones, and spheres.
Chapter 14 Statistics
This chapter is nothing but a way to represent data in the form of figures making it easy to analyze. The data of various sources are put together into a single figure and then studied for changes and comparisons.
Chapter 15 Probability
This chapter is the foundation of the mathematics of chances or possibilities.
So, this was the overview of the syllabus of class 9th.
