For many young people growing up in underserved communities, success at school is shaped by far more than academics alone. Confidence, guidance, encouragement, and access to positive role models can make the difference between simply getting through school and truly thriving.
This is the driving force behind Fidelity Foundation’s partnership with SEED Foundation and its LEAD Programme, which focuses on holistic learner development for young people in Botshabelo and surrounding communities.
The programme goes beyond traditional tutoring by combining academic support with mentorship, leadership development, life-skills training, mental health awareness, and career guidance. Through this integrated approach, learners are supported not only as students, but as young people navigating complex social and economic challenges.
Many learners participating in the programme face significant barriers, including poverty, limited educational resources, and a lack of access to mentorship opportunities. Fidelity Foundation’s support helps ensure these learners have access to study coaching, literacy development, resilience training, and creative learning initiatives that build both academic performance and personal confidence.
The impact of the programme is already evident. Currently supporting 225 learners each quarter, the initiative has delivered measurable outcomes including improved study habits, stronger leadership skills, increased discipline and motivation, greater school engagement, and positive behavioural change.
Importantly, the mentorship model creates safe spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and supported. Through resilience bootcamps, arts and culture programmes, and leadership initiatives, learners are encouraged to believe in their own potential and to envision opportunities beyond their current circumstances.
At its core, the partnership reflects Fidelity Foundation’s belief that sustainable change begins with investing in people. By empowering learners through mentorship and education, the Foundation is helping shape a generation of resilient, confident young leaders who are better equipped to build brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
