The FF Plus wants to know whether The Hawks and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) are investigating the alleged involvement of the former North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, in large-scale corruption and fraud in the North West province.
During a recent meeting of the parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee on the Section 100 intervention in North West, The Hawks and the SIU made submissions about the progress with corruption investigations in the province.
The FF Plus pointed out that despite the well-documented and detailed media reports of alleged irregularities in which Mahumapelo was directly implicated, no progress has apparently been made with investigations in that regard.
The FF Plus demanded that any investigations into Mahumapelo must be disclosed and that the specific charges against him must also be revealed.
Controversial matters in which Mahumapelo has been implicated include, among other things, the “donation” of R100 million worth of scarce game to a so-called empowerment agency under control of a former ANC mayor of Rustenburg, Matthew Wolmarans, and a well-known tenderpreneur, Mike de Kock. At the time, Mahumapelo announced the transaction on De Kock’s farm.
The FF Plus, furthermore, pointed out that the matters currently under investigation only add up to an estimated monetary value of R360 million, while the Auditor-General (AG) has already found more than R3 billion worth of unauthorised and irregular expenditure in the North West.
The FF Plus will continue to monitor these so-called investigations and insists that the whole corruption complot must be laid bare. The looting of taxpayers’ money must be brought to an end and the guilty must be brought to book.
The ANC government must realise that there are consequences for its actions and the FF Plus will ensure that misdeeds and corruption are not simply swept under the carpet.
